Our
volunteers come from all walks of life: business people, homemakers,
snowbirds and retired teachers, to name just a few. All share one common
denominator, a willingness to share their time to benefit a neighbor. Most
say they love to read, and that they decided to become involved with the
Literacy Council to help others know the joy of reading.
Volunteers serve in many capacities. They are tutors, board members,
office help, members of the speakers’ bureau, serve on committees, help with
fundraising, etc.
The only requirements are that the volunteer be at least 18 years of age,
and can read, write and speak English.
All tutors are required to attend a training workshop, which is provided
free of charge. All tutoring materials are also provided free of charge.
Contact our Coordinator, Lynda Folks, for additional information on
becoming a SBLC volunteer. |
